a very good copy - Scarce UK First Edition / First Impression; Original cloth binding illustrated by Dan Beard. Book Description: London: Chatto & Windus, 1894. UK First Edition / First Impression. 208pp + 32pp Ads dated Feb, 1894. Original red and black cloth pictorial boards. 26 Illustrations by Dan Beard (illustrator). Book Condition: Good Plus. Good condition externally with bright, clean front and rear boards. Original red cloth with black cover and spine illustrations, black cover lettering, black and gilt spine lettering. Spine has darkened, becoming delicate with fraying and splits in the cloth to one edge (see picture) and rubbing to the top and bottom. Cocked front to rear (see picture). Edges in very good condition with corners lightly bumped. Very Good condition internally. Although spine is cocked the binding and signatures are very firm and tight. All pages and illustrations clean with no foxing but usual darkening to page edges for a book of this age. Evidence of a small erased pencil inscription and small booksellers stamp (W.H.Smith & Sons, London) on the front endpaper.
